DOJ Funds and Audits. Acting Attorney General Blanche stated the Department of Justice is not moving forward with an "anti-weaponization" fund. This decision was revealed under pressure from House lawmakers. Blanche also confirmed that the order shielding the Trump family from audits will remain in place. The Trump administration is reportedly scrapping a $1.8 billion fund intended to compensate the president's allies.
Trump Administration Actions. The Trump administration has proposed 25% tariffs on Brazil, despite an extensive U.S. trade surplus with the country. Separately, New York and six other states are suing the Trump administration over a deal to end an offshore wind project. President Trump has also tapped his housing chief for an intel post, an appointment that some suggest would give a Trump attack dog access to intelligence.
Congressional Developments. Representative Kean announced he will reveal a medical condition in a "matter of weeks" amid his absence from Congress. He is expected to return to in-person work in a "matter of weeks." The DOJ is investigating former congressman George Santos for insider trading on Kalshi.
White House Correspondents' Dinner. The White House Correspondents' Dinner has been rescheduled for July, with Trump attending. Trump is expected to speak at the rescheduled event.
